Underworld: Awakening

Ladies, it’s over. Stop worrying about your image. Game over, (wo)man. There’s officially no winning. When the stunning Kate Beckinsale is airbrushed into oblivion for Underworld: Awakening, there is just no chance for anyone to be accepted fully. So just go about your business and be happy, ladies. And yes, that is essentially the only event worth noting from the film.

If you didn’t see the first three, then why are you curious about the fourth? For the rest of you/us, the fourth installment of the Underworld franchise follows the eradication of lycans and vampires after the humans discover their presence underneath the surface of society. Selene (Beckinsale) is captured and frozen for testing for 12 years. When she breaks free she is ready to kick some ass. The rest of the plot mirrors the second film regarding the hybrid (lycan and vampire) problem and how much stronger they are than the rest of the world.

I loved the first Underworld. That love depreciated as the franchise moved along and culminated with the last one lacking any semblance of the greatness set up originally. The story for Awakening is completely irrelevant to the film. It’s explosions and a leather-clad Kate Beckinsale beating the hell out of people. I was sorely disappointed and knew this would not be worth it within the first 10 minutes. Just avoid it. (re)Watch the first one.
