There seem to be two types of animated movies hitting the screen these days: the kid’s movie for kids and the kid’s movie for adults. The only difference seems to be who is included in the appeal. The first Despicable Me appealed to children and adults, but still leaned more on the children’s side. The sequel, Despicable Me 2, seems to tip completely over into the kid’s realm. It’s a story as old as time, really. Boy meets girl. Boy and girl become best friends. Boy and girl can’t find lifelong significant others so they decide to have a baby together to avoid the toll a kid takes on a marriage. OK, maybe this story isn’t all that old, but since Friends with Kids can’t stick to its laurels, the story becomes as old as time. Continue reading

Bridesmaids


Before you crucify me for the grade, hear me out. Keep in mind that I am not the target audience for a film about a wedding and I have never been a big fan of Kristen Wiig or Maya Rudolph on SNL, so you can take this review and read it how you like. I do still consider Bridesmaids better than I had anticipated – even on the second viewing, but for different reasons from the majority. Continue reading
